The Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC) invites applications from students and graduates in Design, Engineering, or related disciplines for the position of Intern – Design & Fabrication Analyst to support the implementation of the STRIDE initiative under the Social Enterprises and Inclusion Department.

This internship offers hands-on exposure to assistive device design, prototyping, fabrication processes, and field-level technical support across STRIDE Maker Studios in Kerala.

Thiruvananthapuram, with frequent travel across Kerala

Position Overview

The Design & Fabrication Analyst Intern will support assistive device development by translating user needs and functional requirements into practical design solutions and working prototypes. The intern will assist fabrication activities, testing, iteration, and documentation while coordinating with STRIDE Maker Studios and field teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design & Prototyping Support

●     Translate user requirements into design specifications and prototypes

●     Assist in concept development and functional design of assistive devices

●     Support testing, iteration, and refinement of prototypes

2. Fabrication & Maker Studio Support

●     Assist with 3D printing and basic fabrication processes

●     Provide technical support at STRIDE Maker Studios

●     Travel to Maker Studios across Kerala for on-site support and troubleshooting

3. Documentation & Reporting

●     Document design iterations, testing outcomes, and improvements

●     Maintain records of fabrication processes and device versions

●     Support preparation of technical notes and design documentation

4. Training & Capacity Building Support

●     Assist in training and technical guidance for makerspace teams

●     Support standardization of fabrication and design practices across studios



Required Qualifications

Degree pursuing or completed in Design / Engineering / Technology / related fields, Basic knowledge of prototyping, product design, or 3D modelling, Willingness to travel across Kerala, Strong problem-solving, analytical, and documentation skills



Preferred Skills

Exposure to assistive technology, product design, or fabrication labs, Familiarity with CAD tools, 3D printers, or maker tools, Interest in inclusive design and social impact innovation
