Course Description
Pediatric physiotherapists have expert skills in the assessment, identification, diagnosis and treatment of child development and movement difficulties. We have highly developed hands- on-skills, which we use with a big dash of fun, creativity and playfulness, to develop individualized therapy programs for each of our clients. We collaborate with the child, the child’s family, other health professionals, and teachers or educators. Our treatment programs aim to optimize the health, well-being, and abilities of each child to enable them to move and participate in everyday activities, like playing, learning, going to school, and being a part of family and community. The role of the pediatric physical therapist is to evaluate and provide treatment for delays in motor skills by developing the strength and range of motion that children need to move through their environment easily and effectively. In addition to the assessment of flexibility, strength, posture, gait, sensory processing, balance, coordination, and skill, the pediatric therapist is trained to assess motor development using standardized testing for age equivalents. Aiming at skilled manpower development in this field, the Dept. of physiotherapy, Institute for Communicative and Cognitive Neurosciences (ICCONS), Shoranur, proposes a six-month certificate course “Specialist Physiotherapy Practice in Developmental Disorders”.
